EMBROIDERY
Embroidery became part of Joel’s practice through a collaboration with his wife, Cassie Noel, a skilled textile artist. Together, they developed a distinctive approach that merges painting with embroidery, later inviting his mother, Sue Cunningham, to play a key role. More recently, Joel has also collaborated with Cassie’s mother, Jane Noel, whose intuitive approach to hand stitching brings another unique dimension to the work. This meticulous, time-intensive process combines Joel’s expertise in color and composition with the intricacy of embroidered detail.
